Bloomsburg Downs Clarion in Wrestling

CLARION - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts on its way to an easy 39-3 win over Clarion University in an Eastern Wrestling League matchup Friday night.

The Huskies started the night with a back to back wins by major decision from Matt Moley (Oaks/Spring Ford) at 149 pounds and Dennis Bermudez (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) at 157 pounds. Moley was a 12-4 winner with Bermudez earning a 14-5 win. Bloomsburg also got a major decision from Ricky Donald (Millville/Bloomsburg) at 133 along with a fall from P.J. DiStefano (Whitehall/Whitehall-Coplay) at 197 pounds.

One of the best matches of the night was at heavyweight where 12th-ranked Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) went to overtime against A.J. Brooks before winning 7-5 Brooks led 3-1 after the first period before Spaid rallied and went ahead 4-3 in the second. Brooks though scored a third period reversal to tie at 5-5. In overtime Brooks shot a single leg, but Spaid countered for the winning score.

The Huskies, 9-7, 2-1 in the EWL, return to action on Saturday at Cleveland State.
